Dear Myron & Sally:

Companies market their products to you every day. To develop power over purchase, you must first understand the various marketing methods businesses use.

Class Notes
Phrases like "90 days same as cash" and "no interest until 2010" are meant to lure you into debt. Fall for these tricks, and you could end up paying substantial “stupid tax,” otherwise known as mistakes with zeros on the end. And remember, for major purchases (larger than $300), always wait 24 hours before buying. If you are married, always communicate with your spouse.

Dear Myron & Sally:

Creditors keep calling? Wondering what the deal is with the FICO score? Hopefully, you didn’t miss out on this week’s FPU class. Dave discussed how to understand your credit score and keep vicious creditors from having too much influence in your life.

Class Notes
Never place creditors’ demands over your family’s basic needs. Take care of the Four Walls—food, shelter, clothing, and transportation—before you pay anything. Never attempt to dodge a bill, but make sure you prioritize your family over a barking creditor.

A FICO score is an “I love debt” score—simply measuring how well you manage your debt. It is not a measure of your financial success. Don’t worship at the altar of the “Great FICO.”

Helpful Tools
We offer plenty of tools this week to help you identify any credit issues you may have. In the Member Resource Center, you’ll find information about obtaining your annual credit report, checking for inaccuracies, and securing identity theft insurance. And, as always, the MRC is full of many other resources to help you along your journey to Financial Peace.

Stop those annoying telemarketer calls! Use the government's National Do Not Call Registry to protect your number from unsolicited calls. In addition, you can stop all of the pre-approved credit offers that fill your mailbox!

Homework Reminder

Maybe you’ve never faced collections pressure yourself. But you probably know someone who has received the phone calls and heard the threats. Be prepared to bless others by helping them through a tough time in their lives.

Dear Myron & Sally:

After this week’s lesson, are you ready to get gazelle intense? If you don’t have your starter emergency fund of $1,000 in place, then sell some stuff and keep saving as much money as possible. Then chase away the cheetah by attacking your debts, one at a time, with Dave’s debt snowball.

Class Notes
Debt has only become accepted as normal in America over the last 20 years. To eliminate debt, you must remember that it’s 20% head knowledge and 80% behavior. You always spend more with plastic. Cash hurts! Commit to never using credit cards again—the first and most important step to dumping debt.

Helpful Tools
It’s easy to share your testimony with others! Invite friends or family to come with you to the next class so they can discover the blessings of FPU. Spread the word!

Homework Reminders

Log in to the MRC to create your debt snowball and see when you’ll be debt free.
Fill out your credit card history form to keep track of your accounts and when you requested for them to be closed.

CHANGING SOCIAL STUDIES:

What is going on in our schools?

When I grew up in Bruce SD, my grade school teacher was Mrs. Bombeck.

We learned the basics – readin’ – ‘riting – ‘rithmetic – (My spell checker is going berserk) J

I learned about George Washington, Abe Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson – you know, the founding fathers.

I even learned how to invert the divisor and multiply using a chalkboard, just like my hero Glenn Beck.

We didn’t have any calculators or computers back then.

We had to think.

Now I hear on the news that the liberals want to remove some of these conservative personalities from the school textbooks.

UFF-DA !!

Everything I learned was from Mrs. Bombeck. If only our generation could duplicate her for today’s children. And Glenn Beck.

Muslim vs. Christian faith

DEar followers of this post. I received an email from an email friend here in Topeka KS regarding my latest post. I have taken the liberty to copy his email to this latest post called Muslim faith. Feel free to join us on the Internet.

Here's my friend's email post:

Myron,
You are correct about the Muslim faith being anti-Christ. The Moslem has no problem accepting Jesus as an exceptional prophet and they accept the virgin birth and even allude to the immaculate conception of Our Lady Mary. Yet they emphatically deny the deity of Our Lord. We Catholics characterize Islam as a heresy formed from Mohammed's study of Judaism and Catholicism. I intend to eventually put together a blog about this.
Now about your claim that the Catholic Church persecuted the Protestants in Spain in the inquisition. You are of course the victim of anti-Catholic revisionists. First notice the name did you ever notice that people call it the "SPANISH" Inquisition? Think! Could that be because it was Spanish? Hmmm! It was. The Catholic Church had no part in the Inquisition of any prisoners that were not Catholic. The church did not run the "SPANISH" Inquisition. It was begun at the behest of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
The country had been a confederation of states on the Iberian peninsula that had among it several Visigoth princes that were heretics. Now let me explain. I cannot remember which heresy this was but I assure you that Martin Luther himself would have held it to be at least marginally Christian if not anti-Christian. Remember how he maligned the Anabaptists? When the Visigoth heretics took over parts of North Africa they killed Priests and tried to force the Catholic faithful to abandon their faith by threat of injury and death. This is recorded historical fact. Even St Augustine of Hippo spoke of the cruelty of these heretics.
These Visigoth princes in Spain joined forces with the moors in a conspiracy that included a majority of the Jewish leaders too. Unfortunately some Catholics saw a way to satisfy their greed for wealth and power and joined with the other traitors. The promise was made to turn the south of the Iberian peninsula into a new Jerusalem and the traitors would be part of the ruling class of the new elite and very rich.
The invasion in 711 AD of the Islamic Moorish forces into the Iberian peninsula started almost a century of bloody persecution of the Catholic inhabitants and warfare between the Catholic princes of Iberia and the Moors. The Islamic forces even made it far enough north to invade France (then Gaul) before they were turned back by King Charles Martell and sent scurrying back into Iberia. The only state of Iberia that never fell to the Moors was Galicia. During the warfare Priests were slaughtered in hideous manners and Nun were defiled and killed in equally hideous fashion by both Moor and traitor. Churches were vandalized or destroyed.
When King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella married and combined Castile and Seville and some smaller states into Spain they had the strength to finally defeat the Moorish invaders.
When they did, their first thought was to protect their beloved subjects from more bloodshed. They petitioned the Pope and received the right to begin an Inquisition to find those who were not Catholic and either turn them out of Spain or execute them. It of course was done with all the brutality of the day. A nation that had just come out of 800 years of warfare and atrocities can be very brutal. But no more than some others of the day. The function of the Catholic office of inquisition in Spain was to oversee the treatment of Catholic prisoners and to see to the administration of justice for Catholics. They set up their own prisons and presided over the Inquisition of their own. The prisons were more humane than the state prisons and the laws of evidence more strict. In fact Torquemada the chief inquisitor for the Church actually acquitted more people than were found guilty and false accusers were subject to hard punishment. Even then the court was Spanish and not Catholic and the court issued judgment and executed punishment. That was not the purview of the Churches Holy Office. Nor was it the purview of The Holy Office to oversee the trials of non Catholics. So the Catholic Church had no power over how the non Catholics were tried or punished.
When you consider the facts it actually makes sense in a way to ensure that all occupants of your kingdom are not followers of the very religions that you just fought for 800 years. The numbers of catholics that were killed, maimed and tortured because of the treason of the Jewish and heretic populations of Spain were vastly greater than the numbers of people tried and executed in the Spanish Inquisition. The myths surrounding the Spanish Inquisition are like the myths surrounding Good Queen Bess (Elizabeth I) and Bloody Mary (Mary Queen of Scotts). The true numbers show that Queen Elizabeth was responsible for killing and persecuting far more people who were not Anglican than Queen Mary killed over religion. In fact Queen Mary had many supporters who were not Catholic at least as many as Queen Elizabeth had who were Catholic. Please do not give ear to those who are anti Catholic revisionists. I know it is a popular pastime to calumniate the Catholic Church among some groups and even to question whether we are even Christian. Don't engage in it. It doesn't sound intelligent.

MUSLIM RELIGION:

Sally & I visited Central Park Christian Church at downtown Topeka KS.
We listened to a guest speaker.

This guest speaker was from Pakistan and grew up as a Muslim as a child.

Sally & I were stunned!

The Muslim faith is consuming our world.

What are we Christians to do?

PRAY – PRAY – PRAY

I for one believe that the Muslim faith is the faith of the anti-Christ.

I now understand why this faith believes it’s an honor to kill infidels.

I guess I’m an infidel.

6:30 PM - Financial Peace University @ OSLC (week #2)

In between all these events I needed to take lots of naps

Listening to the speakers in the Supreme Court Room @ the State house is like trying to listen to announcements at the YMCA intercom. I understood maybe 10 % of what the speakers were saying.

We are running down the road rapidly to insolvency! This is the quote I just heard from Stuart Varney. Social Security is going bankrupt. The Federal government is trillions in debt. Our tax and spent “holics” need to start on the 12 step program to cure this disease.
The OBAMACARE program will only increase our national debt. The federal programs have failed.

So what’s the solution?

PRAY

Then we can look at our own life.

Sally and I are leaders in Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace program here at our church.

Sorry to report such negative news.

Hang in there and cling to Jesus for help.

YMCA BIBLE STUDY

YMCA BIBLE STUDY:

I attended the Topeka YMCA weekly bible study again last night. We had 5 in attendance this time. We talked about the bible of all things .. IMAGINE THAT!

OK, I confess, I’m a Christian. If you give me grief, I’ll hit you over the head with my bible.

Jerry Chase and I were co-workers together when I used to work at the Y here in Topeka KS. I left the Y after being downsized back in 2005.

I gave my good buddy Gary Doucette a ride home after our bible study. Gary & I were fellow military comrades from the 190th USAF guard days. I could write a book about our experiences together. I might just do that someday.

Our little YMCA bible study is growing! There’s hope. Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them. .. JC

I’m still suffering from imbalance. I’m in physical therapy at St. Francis Hospital. If I were to be pulled over in a police lineup for sobriety testing, I’d fail.

The word “blog” conjures up many a thought. Did you know that this word on NOT even listed in an old dictionary? .. REALLY!

So let me try to explain a little bit on what the word “blog”. Really means.

In short, the word means, “web log”.

I am a blogger. I’m also a Christian. I’m also a Conservative.

OK .. I confess, I’m a Glenn Beck follower. I tape him on DVR on a recurring daily basis. It’s now 4:00 AM and he’s on again! So I guess I’ll listen to him again for the fourth time. The original daily time slots are on FOX/TV from 4:00-5:00 PM CST

On Friday Glenn had three authors, and the subject is about Progressivism. I learned a lot.

In a country that keeps track of “firsts this” and “first that” in regards to African-Americans, a portion of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream of Blacks being judged on the content of their character and ability rather than a single physical attribute, such as color, was realized. A person of color, long denied positions of power, was elected to the highest office in the land. The organizations will request a Proclamation from Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten for Nov. 4, 2010, to begin the Observance process. All members of the above groups should request Proclamations from the mayors of their cities.

Initially, Bias Busters of Kansas and Denver began a campaign to get a holiday named for President Obama. At this time, that campaign has been put on the back burner due to the uncertain political climate and the necessity to take smaller steps to build a base of voters who are receptive to the idea.
